He also faces a court proceeding on fraud charges related to drawing an European Union grant more than 15 years ago, accusations he disputes.

Election Calendar and Expected Results

The incumbent alliance and its supporters may maintain a majority if a few minor groups are unable to reach the five percent requirement required to get into the legislature, a scenario that helped them in the prior polls but appears doubtful to be duplicated, as per election analysts.

Ballot boxes will be available until late evening (20:00 UTC) on election Friday and from 08:00 to 14:00 on election Saturday, with results expected that afternoon.
